If you do not miss them desperately when they are gone.  If it does not make you cry to lose them and leave an empty space in your heart, then you ought never to have had them.  You are just wasting your time and money caring for a dog.  I have Danes because I love them, deeply.  When I lose one I miss them, deeply.  Each one is different and irreplaceable.
